My timing sucks but I’ve been wanting to make a comic for some time about the federal government’s reverse Midas touch as it applies to FEMA disaster relief in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. I’m not sure when a good time will present itself so here it is.

It’s never too late for some FEMA satire!
Too true…
Sweet! They might run over someone in their unqualified attempt to escape! So that is what boat registration is for! I’ve always wondered.
I always knew the “bill of rights” was a bad idea.. it left out the part about my right to bear boats.
Instead of “reverse Midas touch”, I would go with the “fecal touch of the State”.
You can remind people of this post next summer when some flood hits in Iowa or somewhere.
all rights not specifically enumerated in the BOR – including those that are – remain with the Iron Fist of State.
i see you tried the idea of the introductory captions, looks good.

There weren’t dramatic videos from Houston showing thugs with badges beating up old ladies to get their guns; but, FEMA lost a lot of fans here since Hurricane Ike. The inefficient methods of FEMA were heavily exposed by local media…
Well that’s good. People should look at Katrina as yet another indicator that the state cannot and will not save you. Those people in the Superdome were starving, fighting, shitting themselves and generally turning the place into a paradise for disease. Would you have sat around there waiting for help? Or would you have gotten some supplies and been on your way? I would have taken my chances elsewhere to be honest.
Considering the US government is going to deploy 20,000 troops inside the US borders to help with “disaster relief” and “terrorists attacks” and “other domestic catastrophe.” I think your ‘toon is very timely. It makes me queasy just thinking about it.
REad through all your archives, i will admit im glad to see you take serious thought in this instead of spouting off “Governemnt is evil”
Not sure what you would classify me as… I believe government is essential, i believe that there should be a group responsible for representing the peoples wishes, to create common laws.
I think that the government, especially in the last 18 years, has gone too far.
I also think the media has poisoned the minds of our people, and turned them against our leadership, when a unified front was needed.
Trouble with Iraq? not Bush’s Fault, Clinton allowed the mess to get out of hand by not using a heavy hand WHEN the world and people were all for us using one on Iraq.
Wait, cant blame clinton, Bush Sr should have authorized us taking out sadaam after we liberated iraq… of coarse, we would have lost world support if we did so.
hmm how about going back to blaming the government for putting sadaam in power in the first place?
How about we instead blame ourselves for voting for the lesser of the evils.
WHen you have a choice between a democrate, republican, or independant, most people go democrat or republican, whether or not they want the independant to win.
Why? because we have been indoctrinated to believe that an independant CANT win. so we go oh…. my person can never win, i might as well vote democrat, because i sure dont want to risk a republican in.
You want to change a system, or even get rid of it.. i firmly believe that you need to do so from inside the system.
How do you start making the status quo crumble? Vote an independant in who does a good job. Prove that a democrat/republican does not need to win office.
The first time this happens, it will open the eyes of the people, and the government will be forced to listen.
Two cent rant
errr Bush Sr should have authorized us taking out sadaam after we liberated kuwait
I wonder if Aaron Broussard’s statement that FEMA cut the Jefferson Parish emergency communication lines is true.
Great cartoon, by the way!
