Government Marriage Sucks

Government Marriage Sucks

So a gay marriage bill was passed by the house and the senate. It’s up to the governor now and New Hampshire could be the next state government to grant permission for two individuals to partake of a contract between them that’s really no one else’s business. Good news, I suppose. As long as the government is involved, they shouldn’t discriminate. But I hold to what I’ve said for some time now. Even if I were heterosexual, I wouldn’t touch a government marriage with a ten foot pole.

A medical marijuana bill is also now awaiting the governor. Also good news, though it’s yet another personal matter they should never have butted into in the first place.

So this is what winning feels like!

    I like it.

It’s a heady feeling … kind-of euphoric … it makes me want to do more … to push farther … to boldly repeal unjust laws that no man has repealed before …

We need to bottle this feeling and expose Libertarians from all over the glob to it … they’ll flock to the Free State just to get another fix!

  2. They also smacked the seatbelt bill. It was only “laid on the table,” not ITLed, so it could come back, but it’s dead for now. Fucking good day here today.

The Google search box has been blocking some of the text on several of the strips that I have received lately.Am I doing something wrong?

  4. Dale says:

Vcadd, if you are on Firefox, check to ensure you’re on the latest version. That’s resolved problems for several people now. I sent you an email also. Hope it helps.

Any word on the bill to abolish state-sponsored murder (capital punishment)?

A good place to go for updates on bills and such is the NH Liberty Alliance. I’m an anarchist. Not the best source of information on bills, politicians, and so forth. :)

Just pay your “childless tax” and we’re cool.

    I don’t want to touch a gov’t marriage… hoping it works out :)
But, even though some see it as a step in the right direction, I think it further entrenches the governments supposed authority in marriages, and perhaps force people to recognize marriages as long as the government considers it a marriage…

Wait… hang on, it already does that. But still, I don’t see this bill helping; I just want it to go away! :P

    This cartoon is kinda gay…

  10. susan 28 says:

Dale: i pretty much have your take on it: the gov shouldn’t be involved but if it’s gonna grant privileges it should grant them equally (of course then it’s not really a privilege, heh).

the hospital access thing is between hospitals and their customers, but what bothers me about gay partners’ situation now is how bio family members can overturn wills of non-married couples, which is bullshit. opponents of gay marriage say “all you need is a will” but unfortunately that’s not true, even though it should be. it’s mostly a problem with bigoted judges siding with family members over “disputed” wills, but marriage would provide an ironclad barrier with that, as it does with str8 people.

of course that and other “marriage” related issues could be resolved by making marriage not REQUIRED just to guard against parental and fraternal vultures crapping on one’s will and all the other situations where “marriage changes everything”, but there are so many of them just granting marriage to everyone is more expedient.. but fuck i hate the term “grant”..

I have a government approved marriage. I love my wife and love being married to her but I hate the ‘license.’

  12. Phyl says:

I’m going to be slightly pretentious and quote Charles Baudelaire here. “Unable to do away with love, the Church found a way to decontaminate it by creating marriage.” I think this applies to government marriages as well. As an Atheist Anarchist, I’m never getting married, EVER.

  13. John Delano says:

susan_28, the answer is just to respect all contracts regardless of the orientation or relationship of the parties involved.

  14. Kevin Dean says:

Government marriage sucks for heteros and homos and polys and polygamists…

    And switch is fun!
