    Great addition.

“There’s no way to build and maintain roads without violence” – FANTASTIC :)

I guess you’ll just have to find a horse, call Brian!

  4. Markus says:

    Too funny!

  5. John Pollak says:

This is the best one in quite a while Dale…keep it up!

  6. Rich says:

Hmmm … do most minarchists say that roads “must” be done by government? I do not. I don’t much care, since roads are much harder to fuck up on than health care or Fiat money, but I don’t see any reason that they must be done by them.

Of course, you do realize that even in our Maxarchist society, some roads are not built by government.

  7. Yes, fantastic :D Jokes about roads are my favourite.

  8. This minarchst says that roads can be built and maintained by user fees, even if the government are the ones administering it.

I guess my problem with this series is that the saying goes “it’s funny becasue it’s true”; and I find that a lot of the things poked fun at in this series aren’t the views of many minarchists, but are assumptions and straw men. I doubt that minarchists would use violence to fund roads.

  9. Puke says:

My road is in the sky!

  10. Mike says:

Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.

  11. I thought you guys were all about tolerance. But I’m sensing a lot of hostility towards us small-government realists. Don’t hate us just because we’re different! (And right)

  12. Paul says:

Lol, I can’t decide whether this, or the santa one, is my favorite :)

  13. Paul says:

Maxarchist should be a new character! He could always be arguing for the government solution, but not have the raw power hunger of the iron fist.

E.g: Maxarchist in frame one looking patriotic, in front of flag. “Health care is a right, let’s make those rich people pay for it.”
Frame 2: “Overweight people are wasting health care money. We need to prohibit cheeseburgers”
Frame 3: “Motorcyclists get hurt more. Prohibit motorcycles and dangerous hobbies now!”
Frame 4: “Stress causes illness. No more bad news. Except by permit!”
Frame 5: “Compliance with our new 24 hour crash helmet safety law has reduced health care expenditures by 20%.”
Frame 6, Maxarchist standing among a pile of bubble wrapped, helmeted, duct taped, very sickly looking people: “Now, who wants to be safe from freedom hating terrorists?”

One like this on the patriot act would probably be even better. To protect your freedom from terrorist attack maxarchist wire taps you, takes your free speech, right to assembly, habeus corpus, etc.

It could be a running gag, on different topics, with the last frame depicting the total loss of whatever maxarchist was trying to protect or give in the first frame.

Pretty please make a maxarchist character!! :D

    @Porcupine Realtor

Why do you believe in violence solutions? Why do you think that might makes right, as long as the violence is “limited” a little bit. The last 200 years in America, Germany and Italy prove that constitutional republics are immoral and corrupt and bankrupt.

I guess some people don’t learn from history, they take the bits and piece that they like and ignore everything else.

You are different because you are violent. That does not make you right and the term “small government realists” thats the best oxymoron I have ever heard. It’s better than “paraplegic triathlon.”

  15. Ron Helwig says:

I like that here in New Hampshire we are actually seeing a positive competition of anarchists vs. minarchists. Instead of just debating which is superior, both sides are working to implement their plans. Time will tell, finally.

  16. Dr. Q says:

This series should probably be called “Top 10 Causes of Statism.” Like your “job stealing” comic, this one attacks a straw man. While there are some self-described minarchists who believe the government should build and maintain roads, I don’t think it’s fair to say that most do. A lot of minarchists don’t even believe in taxes.

  17. pilby says:

    @ Dr. Q

A lot of minarchists don’t even believe in taxes.

Then they’re okay in my book. In my opinion, that’s the crux of the issue. Once governments became purely voluntarily-funded, they might actually start to have some value (and cease to be anything like what we call “government” today).

  18. Ofer Nave says:

Even a voluntarily funded government is unacceptable if that institution tries to claim a monopoly right to initiate force against individuals in a certain geographic area. If they don’t claim that, then they’re not a government, just a business providing a service in harmony with morality (non-aggression principle), and we’re back to rational anarchy. Which is good. :)

Also, can’t believe no one has linked to this instant-classic:

I totally agree, but I still think that a lot of Dale’s comments are attacking complete straw men.

Very good recommendation. Francois Tremblay’s writing is great.
